Symbiotic relationships exist in all biological kingdoms and are very common in nature.

There are three main types of symbiotic relationships:

  1. Mutualism: In mutualism, both organisms benefit from the relationship. For example, bees and flowers have a mutualistic relationship where bees pollinate flowers and in return, flowers provide bees with nectar.

  2. Commensalism: In commensalism, one organism benefits from the relationship while the other is neither harmed nor helped. An example of commensalism is a barnacle that attaches itself to a whale and benefits from the whale's movements while not harming the whale.

  3. Parasitism: In parasitism, one organism benefits from the relationship at the expense of the other organism. For example, ticks feeding on the blood of mammals are parasites.

Symbiotic relationships play a crucial role in maintaining the balance of ecosystems and are essential for the survival of many species.
